First We Take Mannahatta
Vernissage Thursday January 16th / 5pm, Kulturhuset Stockholm
Entrées collaboration with Gabriel Kvendseth started with bringing in his Arrows at the BGO1 exhibition at Bergen Kunstmuseum in 2010. In 2011 Entrée participated in Supermarket Artfair where we showed a solo exhibition with Kvendseth and pieces form his series First We Take Mannahatta.
Gabriel Johann Kvendseth works mainly with installation and sculpture using found, rejected and abandoned materials.
Both for the group show in Bergen Kunstmuseum and the solo show at Supermarket he was investigating into the potential for violence and ritual in these abandoned materials by reconstructing it into sculptures, which also imitate the function of weapons.
The result is very powerful images that one can see real physical potential in, linked to rebellion, primal culture, neo-tribalism and science fiction. He has said that with the project he tries to bridge the worlds of fiction and fact, spanning past, present and possible futures.
Gabriel Johann Kvendseth (b.1984) lives and works in Bergen and is currently a MA-student at Bergen National Academy of the Arts. Kvendseth has exhibited at Bergen Kjøtt, Bergen Art Museum, Hordaland Art Center, Small Projects Tromsø, Galleri S.E. and Supermarket. His short films have been screened at various festivals in Europe.
